Breakout EDU is super fun and challenging. 

If you have ever experienced an escape room it’s similar but in reverse. With Breakout EDU 

you solve the puzzles to open the locks and ultimately you break into the box not out of the room.  

Currently, Breakout EDU is offering a free live online daily game with prizes 

(I suspect the prizes could be for US Schools only - but not sure)

They started this on the 14th of April and have continued from Monday to Friday since.

You can go back and try the pre-recorded ones. Just make sure you pause the video before

 the answers are given.

Every Wednesday 10am Eastern Daylight Time this is Thursday 5am New Zealand Time 😂
This is a great opportunity to be involved in a global live coding event. Yes, it's very early for us in Aotearoa however lucky it is recorded so you can watch it later.

This event is hosted by Hadi Partovi (Founder of Code.org), his daughter Sofia, and special guests. 

There have been five episodes so far: 

• Episode 1 - Algorithms with Hill Harper
• Episode 2 - Prototypes with Mark Cuban & Lyndsey Scott
• Episode 3 - Encryption with Ashton Kutcher & Mia Gil Epner
• Episode 4 - Digital Information with Mike Krieger & Alice Keeler
• Episode 5 - Simulations & Data with Bill Gates

Each of these episodes is made up of a live stream talk and activities both online and unplugged. 

The activities are designed for ages 6-12 and 13+.

Choice Boards for Year 2-6

With distance learning, it is important to give students some choice in their learning. When students have a choice they are more likely to engage.  
One way of doing this is to provide some type of choice board this could sit alongside your core programme. The example below has been take from a US classroom. If you are interested in using this template or ideas from it, link to Choice Boards Year 2-6  and make a copy for yourself.

Curl up in a comfy spot and dive into a great book! Have someone snap a photo, post it on Seesaw!	Write about a fun day you had with your family.	Use a toy or another object to measure 5 different things in your house.	Use books or kiddle to research something you are interested in.  Write down three new things you learned.	Create something using recycled materials.	Draw the most fantastic and fun water park you can imagine!
Find a book or magazine. Can you find any sight words in the book or magazine? Write them down on a piece of paper. Take a picture of the paper and post on Seesaw.	Write 10 words that describe you.  Ask your family to write 3 words about you, do they have the same words?	Go on a 3D shape hunt. What shapes can you find around your house? Take some pictures, post one on Seesaw and describe the shape. How many sides? How many points? How many edges?	Watch a BrainPop video on something that interests you. (the login in information on our website)	Choose a song and make up a dance! Perform the dance for your family. Teach them some of the moves. Record the dance and post it on Seesaw.	Draw yourself wearing a sneaky disguise.
Listen to a story. What was your favorite part? Retell the story to your family.	Write a note to your friend.	Write 3 word problems: 1 addition, 1 subtraction, and 1 money.  Use the note option and add them to Seesaw.	Create a picture book to share your knowledge about something you are an expert on.	Try and learn origami http://www.origami-instructions.com/origami-for-kids.html	Go outside and create an image from found objects like grass, leaves, and sticks. Post a picture on Seesaw.
Listen to a book on https://www.storylineonline.net/	Write a short story from the point of view of a piece of litter.	Create a Slides or use Seesaw to show 10 examples of patterns found in nature (ie flowers, insects, animals). Describe the pattern you can see.	Using paper, string (or yarn, pipe cleaners, or more paper) can you create a parachute for one of your toys?  Take a video of you dropping your toy and post it on Seesaw.	Plan a picnic with your family.  Place a blanket on the floor and enjoy your family picnic!	Ask a family member to create a random line on a piece of paper.  Then draw a picture using that line. What can you create?

Read to your pet or your teddy.  Have someone snap a photo, post it on Seesaw!	Read two books about animals and write about how they are different and the same.	Design and create a game using addition and/or subtraction. Include the game rules, question cards, and an answer key. Be creative!	Invent your own game.  What are the rules? How do you play?	Play a card game with your family.	Have someone describe an animal to you without telling you the name, then draw their description.
Record yourself reading on Seesaw.	Use some of your sight words to write 1 paragraph.	Create your skip-counting pattern.  Record yourself on Seesaw reciting the pattern.	Design a bookmark for a non-fiction book you read.  Include some facts from the book.	Create a comic strip. Take pictures and share it on Seesaw.	Set a timer, how long can you balance on one foot for? ________ seconds
Have a sibling or a parent read to you.	Describe your favorite toy or game.	Make a schedule for your day.  Write down the times you will do each thing in your schedule.  What takes the most time? What takes the least amount of time?	Try to code with Kodable. https://www.kodable.com/	Ask an adult to cook or bake with you.	Create a new cover for a book you love.  Take a picture and post it on Seesaw.
Reread your favorite book.	Write a how-to book for a first grader about something you can do or make.	Make flashcards for addition and subtraction. Write the equation on the front (12 + 8) and the answer on the back (20).  Have someone ask you the questions.	Interview a family member about their favorites. Food, Colour, Snack Animal, Number, Activity, Game, something else? Can you last 1 minute? 2 minutes? 3 minutes?
Draw a picture of your favorite character in the book. Write some character traits around him/her.	Make a list of your favorite foods starting with your number 1.	Draw some base-ten blocks.  What number did you draw? Take a picture and post it on Seesaw.	Use books or kiddle to research how someone celebrates their birthday in a different country.
